In a culture that often prefers a comfortable, bloodless version of Christianity, Pastor Léveillé brings us back to the non-negotiable heart of the gospel. Drawing from Hebrews 9:22 and 1 John 1:7, this message boldly proclaims the biblical truth that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. Far from being an outdated or offensive doctrine, the blood of Jesus remains the only payment God will accept for sin, the only foundation for forgiveness, and the only hope for guilty sinners.
A Perfect Blood
The Old Testament demanded a lamb without blemish (Exodus 12:5). Any spot, any defect disqualified the sacrifice. God would not accept less than perfection because the animal stood as a substitute. In the same way, Jesus Christ offered Himself as the spotless Lamb. The Apostle Peter declares that we are redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:19). Pilate could find no fault in Him. False witnesses had to be hired because no true accusation would stick. His life was perfect, therefore His blood is perfect. We are not saved because our record is clean; we are saved because His record is perfect, and that perfect righteousness is credited to everyone who trusts Him alone.
A Precious Blood
Precious means costly. Silver and gold cannot redeem a soul, yet many imagine their good works, religious sincerity, or charitable deeds can tip the scales with God. Scripture is clear: “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… but with the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19). One offering was enough. Hebrews 10:14 reminds us, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” Any system that claims the sacrifice must be repeated, whether weekly, annually, or continually, unwittingly declares that Christ’s blood was not precious enough the first time. The infinite value of the Son of God meant that a single sacrifice satisfied divine justice completely and forever.
A Prevailing Blood
The promise is staggering in its scope: “The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). All means all. There is no sin too dark, no past too shameful, no stain too deep for this blood to reach. Murderers, sex offenders, liars, gossips, proud religious people; every category of sinner who comes to Christ finds the same welcome because the same blood prevails over every charge. Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, listing the vilest lifestyles, then declared, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus” (1 Corinthians 6:11). The blood that made peace through the cross (Colossians 1:20) also purges the conscience from dead works to serve the living God (Hebrews 9:14). Believers need never live under yesterday’s guilt when the prevailing blood of Christ has already spoken a better word.
A Powerful Blood
This blood does what nothing else can. It heals the deadly disease of sin: “By whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). It removes the deepest stains, turning scarlet into snow (Isaiah 1:18). It justifies the guilty, sanctifies the profane, and redeems slaves out of the marketplace of sin (Titus 2:14). Like the orphaned lamb covered with the fleece of the true lamb and accepted by the ewe, we are received by God because we are covered with the righteousness of Christ. The vilest offender who believes is made a child of God, welcomed home forever.
May we never be ashamed of the old rugged cross or embarrassed by the blood that flowed from it. In a generation that wants stories about Jesus without the language of atonement, let us resolve to preach Christ crucified. The Babe in Bethlehem’s manger had blood coursing through His veins that was destined to be spilled for guilty sinners like us. That blood is still perfect, precious, prevailing, and powerful. It is still all our hope and all our plea.
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Conclusion
As we enter another Christmas season with carols, lights, and gifts, let the truth sink deep: the infant King came with one great purpose, to pour out the blood that alone can make sinners clean. May gratitude for that priceless gift fill our hearts with fresh worship and compel us to proclaim to a bloodless age the only message that saves: nothing but the blood of Jesus.
