As believers, we often encounter situations that test our faith, whether through resistance from external forces or a lack of personal resources to accomplish what God has called us to do. The story of Israel’s deliverance in Exodus 6:1-8 provides a powerful reminder of God’s sufficiency in the face of overwhelming odds. Pastor Mctague’s sermon draws three timeless truths from this passage to encourage us to trust in God’s divine power, promises, and purpose, no matter the circumstances.

We as Believers Must Remember God’s Divine Power Regardless of the Situation

In Exodus 6:1, God declares to Moses, “Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land” (KJV). At this point, the Israelites were enslaved, Moses was discouraged, and Pharaoh defiantly resisted God’s command. Yet, God redirects Moses’ focus from human limitations to His divine power. He does not minimize the problem or suggest that Pharaoh is a weak opponent. Instead, He emphasizes His own strength, reminding Moses that He is the omnipotent God who created the world and holds the hearts of kings in His hand (Proverbs 21:1).

As believers, we must fix our eyes on God’s limitless power rather than our circumstances. Whether facing personal struggles or challenges as a church, we serve a God who is greater than any opposition. Pharaoh’s defiance was no match for Yahweh, and neither are the obstacles we face today. By trusting in His divine power, we can move forward with confidence, knowing that He will accomplish His will.

We as Believers Must Remember Yahweh’s Divine Promise No Matter the Circumstances

God reminds Moses of the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, “And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers” (Exodus 6:4, KJV). This Abrahamic covenant was an unconditional promise from God to provide a land, a seed, and a blessing to His people. Despite the Israelites’ oppression and Moses’ doubts, God reaffirms His faithfulness to fulfill His word.

As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that we serve the same God who keeps His promises. Just as He assured Moses that He would deliver Israel, He has promised to build His church (Matthew 16:18). When we face resistance or feel inadequate, we must cling to God’s unchanging promises. His covenant is not dependent on our strength but on His faithfulness. By resting in His word, we find assurance that He will complete the work He has begun.

We as Believers Must Remember Yahweh’s Divine Purpose No Matter the Circumstances

In Exodus 6:6-8, God outlines His purpose for Israel: “Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God… And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob” (KJV). God’s purpose was not only to deliver Israel from Egypt but to bring them into a relationship with Him and establish them in the promised land.

Today, God’s purpose remains unchanged. He desires to redeem people, bring them into a relationship with Him, and use His church to fulfill the Great Commission. As we seek to evangelize, disciple, and worship, we must align ourselves with His divine purpose. Resistance and limited resources may challenge us, but they cannot thwart God’s plan. By participating in His work, we become co-laborers in His mission to reach the world with the gospel.

Conclusion

The story of Israel’s deliverance in Exodus 6:1-8 teaches us that resistance and lack of resources are opportunities to trust in God’s divine power, promises, and purpose. As individuals and as a church, we will face challenges, but we serve a God who is all-powerful, faithful to His word, and committed to His plan. Let us fix our eyes on Him, trusting that He will accomplish His will through us for His glory.
