The blood of Jesus Christ stands as the foundation of Christian faith, offering redemption, cleansing, and restored relationship with God. In a message drawn from 1 Peter 1:18-19, Pastor Léveillé explores the profound value of this precious blood through various Scriptures. Far from a mere symbol, it represents the ultimate sacrifice that transforms lives and draws believers near to their Saviour. This article unpacks seven key reasons why the blood of Christ remains precious to every believer.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Redeeming Power (Acts 20:28)

We live in a world that often values human effort above the sacrifice of Jesus. Yet Scripture makes it clear that redemption comes only through His blood. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. (Acts 20:28, KJV)

The word “purchased” carries the idea of a price paid in the marketplace. Jesus did not overlook sin or pretend it never happened. He saw our bondage to sin and paid the full price Himself with His precious blood. Like a compassionate buyer who frees a slave from the auction block, Christ purchased us not to enslave us but to set us free. We were not redeemed cheaply with silver or gold, but with the blood of the Son of God. Because we were bought with such a price, we are no longer our own and must live for His glory.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Cleansing Power (1 John 1:7)

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:7, KJV)

Notice the ongoing nature of the word “cleanseth.” This speaks of continual, present cleansing for every believer who walks in the light and confesses sin. The blood does not merely cover past sins at salvation; it cleanses us daily as we bring our failures to God. No amount of time, good works, or religious effort can remove guilt or shame. Only the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses completely. David prayed in Psalm 51:7, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” (KJV) When we confess our sin, the blood removes every stain.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Reconciling Power (Colossians 1:20)

And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. (Colossians 1:20, KJV)

Sin created not just distance but hostility between humanity and God. The blood of Christ does far more than cancel debt. It makes peace and restores relationship. It brings former enemies into fellowship with God and with one another. Examples abound of enemies reconciled through this blood, such as Saul (later Paul) and Stephen, or Jim Elliot and his former persecutor. Believers can draw near with confidence because the blood has made peace.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Bringing-Near Power (Ephesians 2:13)

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:13, KJV)

We who were once alienated and without access have been brought near. The blood removes barriers and grants relational closeness with God. Believers no longer need to live distant from their Heavenly Father. Through confession and cleansing, we can enjoy intimate fellowship with Him at any time. The sacrifice of Christ invites us into His presence rather than leaving us far off.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Inviting Power (Hebrews 10:19-20)

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh. (Hebrews 10:19-20, KJV)

Under the Old Testament system, only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year. When Jesus died, the temple veil tore from top to bottom, opening the way for all believers. The blood of Christ invites us with boldness into the very presence of God. Like one elevated by royal favour despite humble origins, we are brought near not by our merit but by the gracious work of Christ.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Victorious Power (Revelation 12:11)

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (Revelation 12:11, KJV)

The blood provides victory over accusation, temptation, and persecution. Christians do not fight for victory but from victory already secured by Christ. Besetting sins, addictions, and pressures lose their ultimate power when believers stand on what Jesus has accomplished.

The Blood of Christ Is Precious Because of Its Motivating Power (Revelation 5:9)

And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. (Revelation 5:9, KJV)

In heaven, multitudes from every nation worship because of the blood. Understanding its cost stirs genuine worship and motivates gospel outreach. Missionaries go to the ends of the earth knowing that Jesus shed His blood for people of every tribe and language. This truth also compels us to share the message across the street.

Conclusion

As we reflect on the Lord’s Table, we remember the most precious gift ever given: the blood of Jesus Christ. It redeems, cleanses, reconciles, brings us near, invites us boldly, grants victory, and motivates worship. If you have never trusted Christ as Saviour, today is the day to receive the forgiveness He offers through His sacrifice. For those who know Him, may the wonder of His blood never grow ordinary. Let us come to His table gratefully, thoughtfully, and reverently, living each day in the power and proximity made possible by the precious blood of Christ.
